Why Men Should Treat Themselves to Spa Days: Breaking Stereotypes

We now live in the era of social media, and because of it, we are more conscious than ever of the way we look (for better or for worse). But social media is also just an amplification of who we are as people. This is why it has also been one of the biggest proponents of self-care during the past several years. And this concept has unintentionally become a valuable bridge that has linked how we feel and how we look. Often, one seems to influence the other. And that is where spas come into play.

Eating clean, exercise, and sleep are all great ways to take care of oneself, but there is a fourth method, that is often undermarketed to men and that involves encouraging a little pampering. For this, we recommend a spa day. So, just how does one go about this kind of self-care? And can self-care for men look the same as it might for others? The short answer: definitely!

A spa day could be the perfect way to close out a carousing bachelor party weekend or it might be the perfect antidote to a week of late nights at work. And, if you need more of an excuse, consider it a recon mission as you scout out the perfect gift for a partner;)

What can you expect at a spa?

If this is your first time at a spa, then here’s what you might want to consider trying on your visit.

A Facial. This involves a process of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing skin. It is often recommended to shave the night before. Getting a facial can be a great way to get rid of blackheads, and maintain clearer, more glowing skin.

A Massage. Massages are a great way to release the tension from your body, preventing injuries that occur from muscle tightness, and generally improves circulation. Remember to stay hydrated, eat only lightly beforehand, and to wear loose-fitting clothing that is easily removable.

Manicures and Pedicures. This often includes soaking your feet in warm water, a nice massage, sometimes a free beverage, and careful attention to your nail beds. And if you care for it, nail polish. Manicures and pedicures are great ways to prevent fungal infections, clear up hangnails and dead skin, and rejuvenate dry skin. Give your flip-flops and your fancy slides the nailbeds they deserve.

What’s next?

Make it an annual or even a monthly visit. Like most self-care practices, regular commitment can help you feel healthy and rejuvenated over the long term.

If you are ready to enter this summer feeling like your best, close-up ready, confident self, give a spa treatment a try.

And, if you’re in Maryland, Robert Andrew is a great place to start because we are a one-stop-shop for all things self-care. And if you are a one and done kind of guy, then you might want to consider a spa package. Come in for a visit, stay for the full spa experience, and leave transformed.
